Case based reasoning often relies on explicit domain knowledge when searching for similar cases and using them for tackling new situations. Empirically oriented domains, on the other hand, usually suffer from an incomplete or nonexistent domain model, but provide much knowledge inherent in the results of their studies, to help computing similarities and adaptation rules. A method is introduced for combining this knowledge with the retrieval and adaptation process of case based reasoning in the application domain and its application in the area of bone healing is illustrated.
