Abstract

Using Artificial Intelligence techniques we have developed a concept for modelling and representation, considering the demands of biology and ecology. By structuring in terms of biology the developed tree model CROWN is divided into components communicating with each other during evaluation. The object-oriented concepts supports not only the representation according to model conceptions of the knowledge domains but also successive model development. Applying inheritance mechanisms, the model is specified step-by-step from a general tree model to the tree species and further to the individual tree. Changes in model structure during simulation are generated into the concept.
